This statement describes the ACA
privacy practices in connection with this website.
General Statement
The American Canoe Association
(ACA) fully respects your right to privacy. With the exception of the technical
information described below, we do not collect any information about you on
this website unless you voluntarily provide it.
Collection and use of personal information
Except for the technical
information described below, the American Canoe Association does not collect
any personal information data about you on this website unless you voluntarily
provide it.
We collect information that you
voluntarily provide, such as when you send us an email message or submit
information through one of our on-line forms. In those places where you provide
personal information, we explain to you the purposes for which that information
will be used, unless the purpose is apparent from the context. In all cases, we
will only use the information you provide in accordance with the purposes we
have stated and/or the purpose for which you provided it. In particular, the
ACA will not share your email address with any third party unless you
affirmatively give us permission to do so.
The ACA uses a web hosting
company called Your Membership (YM) to host this website. By technical
necessity, the personal information you provide is stored on equipment owned by
YM or leased by YM from a third party (subject to confidentiality
restrictions). Because this information is collected through the ACA website,
the ACA’s privacy policy governs its use. YM uses this information for the sole
purpose of allowing you to access the ACA website and participate in the online
activities that are available through the ACA site.
If you ever have questions about
how your information will be used, you may contact us before you provide it and we will give you
additional information. You may also review the privacy policy of Your
Membership by clicking on the link on the bottom of this page.
Collection and use of technical information
This website uses temporary
"session" cookies that enable your web browser to remember which
pages you have already visited. Other than that, this site does not use
cookies.
Most of this site will function
properly using a browser that has cookies disabled. However, pages that require
visitors to log-in may not work with cookies disabled. If you experience
problems with the site relating to cookies and do not want to enable them, call
or email the ACA National Office using the information on our Contact Us
webpage.
Our website hosting company, Your
Membership, collects the following technical information on visitors to this
website:
The IP address of your computer or computer
network;

Your top-level domain (for example .com, .org,
.net);
The website address from which you came to this
site, including any search terms used to find this site; and
The type of operating system and web browser you
are using, and your CPU speed.
YM uses this information to
measure traffic patterns on the site and the use of YM’s services. YM does not
match this technical information with any other personal information without
the ACA’s consent.
YM may also collect information
on the number of downloads from this website, the types of services used and
the number of daily visitors. This information is collected in aggregate form,
without any individual identification. It is used to improve the website
and its services, to provide more relevant experiences to site users, and for
statistical analysis.
Under no circumstances will the
ACA attempt to use the technical information collected to identify individual
visitors. Furthermore, the ACA will never knowingly disclose the technical
information gathered by our web hosting company to any other party unless
required to do so by law or an order of a court.
Information On Other Websites
The ACA website contains links
to other sites that may collect your personal information. In such instances,
unless expressly provided otherwise, the collection and use of your personal
information will be governed by the privacy policy applicable to that site.
That privacy policy should identify the entity that is collecting your personal
information. The ACA is not responsible for privacy practices of sites linked
to on the ACA site.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
From time to time, ACA may
update or modify this privacy policy. If it does so, it will provide notice of
the change to the ACA membership and to users of the ACA website. After notice
has been provided, persons who continue to use the website will be deemed to
have accepted the privacy policy changes. If, when you initially provided
personal information, you instructed ACA to not share that information with
some or all third parties, ACA will continue to honor that instruction
regardless of any change in the privacy policy. No change in the ACA’s privacy policy
will override your original instruction to not share your personal information unless you consent to that change.
Credit Card Security
ACA takes the security of our
customers' transactions very seriously, utilizing the latest internet
encryption and authentication technology and protocols to safeguard the privacy,
confidentiality, and security of your information. All your order information
is always protected by SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption, the industry
standard for online transactions.
Every time you place an order
for a product from the ACA on-line Store, you are automatically protected.
Every modern browser is compatible with SSL, including Netscape Navigator 2.0
and above, Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and above, and AOL 3.0 and above.
Before you can order, your browser automatically reads our "site
certificate" and verifies our identity with VeriSign, a third party
certifying agency.
